+ Welcome to Marsfield Carols
Welcome to our fourth Marsfield Carols held at Epping Boys High School. Amazingly we were permitted to hold this event – albeit with only three weeks notice, such being the times we are in!
In this year of such upheaval, it is refreshing and comforting to remind each other of those things which are unchanging, which we can rely upon whatever is happening around us, and Christmas is one of those things. When so much is fragmentary and transient, this Christmas we are able to stop and remember when God sent His Son into the world as the man Jesus Christ.
While bushfires, floods, hail and pandemics have made this a year which will not quickly be forgotten, no one may discount the impact the birth of Jesus has had on the world these 2000 plus years. Tonight, together, we celebrate where it all began, in that humble manger in Bethlehem, where God made himself known to his creation.
A little bit about us: NDCCCS is a community of Christians who have been meeting in the Marsfield area for almost 30 years, and we now have multiple congregations who meet every Sunday to worship God, sing his praises and hear from the Bible. We meet in English and Chinese, and welcome people from all backgrounds. You are very welcome to join us here on Sundays (9:45am Cantonese; 9:45am Mandarin; 11.30am English), all of which include a kids program during term time. 🎶 Mary's Boy Child 🎶
Long time ago in Bethlehem
So the Holy Bible say
Mary's Boy Child, Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day!
Hark! Now hear the angels sing:
New King's born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day!
Trumpets sound and angels sing,
Listen to what they say!
That man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas Day!
While shepherds watched their flocks by night
They saw a bright new shining star
And heard a choir from heaven sing
The music came from afar
Now Joseph and his wife Mary
Came to Bethlehem that night.
They found no place to bear her Child,
Not a single room was in sight.
Hark! Now hear the angels sing:
New King's born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day!
Trumpets sound and angels sing,
Listen to what they say!
That man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas Day!
By and by they found a little nook
In a stable all forlorn.
And in a manger cold and dark
Mary’s little Boy/Child was born
Long time ago in Bethlehem
So the Holy Bible say
Mary’s Boy Child, Jesus Christ
Was born on Christmas Day!
Hark! Now hear the angels sing:
New King's born today
And man will live for evermore
Because of Christmas Day!
Trumpets sound and angels sing,
Listen to what they say!
That man will live forevermore
Because of Christmas Day!
🎶 We Three Kings 🎶
We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain moor and mountain
Following yonder star
O star of wonder star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever ceasing never
Over us all to reign
O star of wonder star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Prayer and praising all men raising
Worship Him God on high
O star of wonder star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Myrrh is mine its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing sighing bleeding dying
Sealed in the stone cold tomb
O star of wonder star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and sacrifice
Alleluia alleluia
Peals through the earth and skies
O star of wonder star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
🎶 Angels We Have Heard on High 🎶
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echo back their joyous strains
Gloria
In excelsis Deo
Gloria
In excelsis Deo
Shepherds why this jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong
Say what may the tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly songs
Gloria
In excelsis Deo
Gloria
In excelsis Deo
Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King
Gloria
In excelsis Deo

Luke 1:26-38 | Announcement of the Birth of Jesus
In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.”
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
🎶 God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen 🎶
God rest you merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
From God our Heavenly Father
A blessed angel came;
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
"Fear not then," said the Angel,
"Let nothing you affright,
This day is born a saviour
Of a pure virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan's power and might."
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest, storm and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightway
The Son of God to find.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Now to the Lord sing praises,
all you within this place
And with true love and brotherhood
each other now embrace;
This holy tide of Christmas
All other doth deface,
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Luke 2:1-7 | The Birth of Jesus
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who as pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
🎶 Jesus Saves (Jingle Bells) 🎶
The world belongs to God
He spoke and there it was
Though it was very good
It all went bad because
The man that God had made
And the woman there with him
Turned their back on God to get
A deadly taste of sin
BUT...
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Jesus is the way
Jesus is the Saviour
You can come to him today, HEY!
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
People from their sin
You will find forgiveness
When you put your trust in Him
Well if you look around
You'll see how sin has spread
Turning light to dark
And living things to dead
But God still rules the world
He always had a plan
To send his son to save us in
The likeness of a man
COZ...
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Jesus is the way
Jesus is the Saviour
You can come to him today, HEY!
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
People from their sin
You will find forgiveness
When you put your trust in Him
Well if you come to God
You still have time you know
He'll wash your sinful heart
And make it white as snow
Come taste eternal life
And death will have no sting
All who trust in Jesus are
The children of the King
YES...
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Jesus is the way
Jesus is the Saviour
You can come to him today, HEY!
Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
People from their sin
You will find forgiveness
When you put your trust in Him
Luke 2:8-20 | Adoration by the Shepherds
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
🎶 Silent Night 🎶
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heav’n afar
Heavenly hosts sing alleluia
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant streams from they holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
Jesus, Lord at thy birth
🎶 The First Noel 🎶
The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep
Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night
Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel
And by the light of that same star
Three wise men came from country far
To seek for a king was their intent
And to follow the star wherever it went
Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel
This star drew nigh to the northwest
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both stop and stay
Right over the place where Jesus lay
Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel
Then entered in those wise men three
Full rev'rently upon the knee
And offered there in His presence
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense

Born is the King of Israel
Luke 2:21-38 | Jesus presented at the temple
On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”
Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
For my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother marvelled at what was said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshipped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
